Quick Synopsis: White man thinks he can play inside other people’s brains without consequences

TRIGGER WARNING: This rant does mention suicide a lot. Also, let’s just recognize that Elliot Page is a man, but the character he played in this film, Ariadne, was female, so if you see a reference to her/she, it’s the character Ariadne, not Elliot.

Let me start out by saying the soundtrack, or rather soundscape to this movie is still one of my favorites, hands down. There used to be an app where you could listen while sleeping, and it integrated outside sounds into it. Phenomenal.

Also, the movie is actually good. I think the idea of being able to go into the realm of imagination, you have to remember that the only limits, are you! Everything and anything can happen!

Having said that, none of the team that was put together for this mind heist of a film would have had to bother if Cobb, DiCaprio, hadn’t been fucking around in his wife’s head in the first place!

He convinces Mal, Cotillard, to go further, do more, go deeper (pause) and when she’s 1000% on board to be there in “Limbo” forever with him, he’s like, “Nah, I think we’ve done enough.” He then has the audacity to be surprised when this decision has real world consequences!

Mind you, this entire time, they’ve got two young children in the “real world” that they are clearly not raising cuz they off playing in dreamy brain world.

Now that they’re back, his wife can’t tell reality from fantasy, but has the wherewithal to get a couple of doctors to attest to her sanity, and write letters that basically say, “It’s this mother fucker’s fault I’m dead. So make sure to arrest him when you find my body.”

Mans has to then go on the lamb in non extradition countries or he’ll be locked up for life.

Mind you, kids still being taken care of by other people.

He takes on the swanky job of corporate espionage, because at least there, fucking around in someone’s head isn’t totally morally disgusting.

Except when he goes into the wrong person’s head, and he’s like, “Gotcha bitch!”

Saito, Wattanabe, is the man in question who gives Cobb an option. Death or go back home to your kids. And you think, aww, he chose his kids! That’s great!

WHY DIDN’T HE CHOOSE HIS DAMN KIDS IN THE FIRST PLACE!

Now, Arthur, Gordon-Levitt, and the rest of the power rangers have been sold a bill of goods to all go down in the rabbit hole to help a man who really doesn’t deserve the help he’s asking for.

He makes Ariadne, Page, keep his dirty little secrets.

He forces Author to pretend Cobb is in his right mind, which he’s not.

He doesn’t tell Eames(Hardy), Yusuf(Rao), or even Saito that if they “die” in this dream world, they’re stuck in fucking limbo. Possibly forever.

So, of course, he sabotages the entire plan by having a fucked up version of his wife lurking around trying to stop them at every twist and turn, plus, while he’s busy trying to keep his demons at bay, there’s not enough background done on the target, Robert Fischer (Murphy), and his brain is literally trying to kill them off rip.

It turns into an action film of survival while they’re only being forced deeper and deeper until Mal finally has her moment and fucks everything up by damn near to killing their target.

The entire world has to crumble before Cobb finally realizes he has to let go of the wife he drove to suicide so that everyone can live.

In short, Cobb takes Mal , who, in real life was probably a wonderful woman, on a whirlwind dream romance in her brain, gets bored, and decides to plant a seed of doubt in her head to bring her back to reality because he doesn’t want to play anymore.

Then, that ‘innocent’ little seed leads her to committing suicide, and he’s the VICTIM!

GTFOH.

He deserved nothing, and everyone should have said no. If we really wanted to do everyone a solid, Saito should have made Cobb do the work, and then leave him stranded, cuz it’s what he deserved.
